Mission
The McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship’s mission is to advance the creation and transfer of entrepreneurship knowledge.
The Center does so through world-class teaching in entrepreneurship programs, courses, and other offerings to undergraduate, graduate, and other learner populations. The center was among the first to offer organized entrepreneurship education — establishing the degree programs in 1984. Since that time, thousands of students have engaged in education programs through the McGuire Center.
A landmark study conducted by the Center demonstrates that graduates of entrepreneurship in general, and the McGuire (then Berger) Center specifically-quite simply accomplish more than their non entrepreneurship counterparts.
A rich research focus — ranging from early stage issues around discovery and innovation, such as intellectual property, incentives, and ownership — to entrepreneurship within the institution and the capture and illustration of the social, environmental, and economic value of individual innovation to advance student goals. The McGuire Center features research generated in house, as well as related research from around the academy.
Finally, the Center works to advance the field of study through service to the broader academic and business communities. Service to groups and organizations ranging from the University’s intellectual property committee, Southern Arizona’s IdeaXchange, Rural and Tribal Entrepreneurship Initiatives, Innovation Frontier Arizona, and the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers, to name a few.
